England all-rounder Moeen Ali will open the batting with captain Alastair Cook during the first warm-up match against Sri Lanka A on November 21 in Colombo.

It has also been announced that regular opener Alex Hales has been dropped for the match.

The move comes as a bit of a shock, especially since Hales only started opening the batting when he made his ODI debut during the recent series against India.

“At the moment, we’re trying to find a settled combination as a team,” England head coach Peter Moores said. “I think anyone who’s watched us play will know we haven’t played as well as we want to.
