“I’m backing Michael Clarke to play”

Australia national selector Rod Marsh has announced that captain Michael Clarke is on track to play the first Test against India, which gets underway on December 4 in Brisbane.

Clarke, who re-injured his hamstring during the first ODI against South Africa, underwent scans on Saturday.

However, while Cricket Australia team performance manager Pat Howard stated that Clarke might need surgery, Marsh revealed that Clarke’s injury was not as serious as first predicted.

“He saw a guy this morning and I’ve never seen a happier doctor on our team,” Marsh said. “He looked really happy with what’s going to happen, so I’m backing Michael Clarke to play.”
