Australia captain Michael Clarke will miss the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa after re-injuring his hamstring during the first ODI in Perth.
Clarke, who injured his hamstring while batting, was dismissed on 11 when he was caught behind off the bowling of Dale Steyn. After making his way back to the pavilion, Clarke did not return to the field and George Bailey took over as captain for the rest of the match, which Australia ended up winning by 32 runs.
“Michael had scans today in Perth for his ongoing left hamstring problem and as a result has been ruled out of the remaining matches,” team doctor Peter Brukner said. “Michael will return to Sydney for further treatment and an update on his fitness for the first test in Brisbane will be made in due course.”
