Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced that they have appointed Trevor Penney as their new fielding coach until the end of the 2015 World Cup.

Penney will start working with the national team on November 20, which is just six days before their seven-match ODI series against England gets underway.

SLC also revealed that they were initially considering appointing Penney as their assistant coach as well since he held the same position from 2005 to 2007.

However, after deciding against it, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva stated that the board “has not made a decision on whether an assistant coach will be appointed, or whether we will carry on with our existing coaching structure”.

Prior to this, Penney was India’s fielding coach from 2011 until he was asked to vacate his post following the national team’s disastrous Test series against England this summer.
