Bangladesh’s opening pair of Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal both scored centuries to wear Zimbabwe down on the first day of the third Test in Chittagong.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim would have been thrilled with his decision to bat first Kayes and Iqbal amassed a 224-run partnership, during which Iqbal brought up his sixth Test century and Kayes his second, before Iqbal was caught by Hamilton Masakadza off the bowling of Sikandar Raza.

Iqbal’s brilliant knock of 109 came off 171 balls and included 14 boundaries and a six.

Kayes went on to make a career-best 130, which came off 257 deliveries and included 12 boundaries and two sixes, before he was caught by Vusi Sibanda, who was the substitute fielder, at gully off the bowling of Masakadza.

Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah kept the runs flowing with an unbeaten 31-run partnership before stumps was called.

Haque finished on 46 off 88 balls, which included three boundaries, while Mahmudullah remained undefeated on five.

Raza and Masakadza picked up one wicket apiece.

Bangladesh ended day one on 303/2 and will continue batting tomorrow at 09:30 local time or 03:30 GMT.
