India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will miss the first Test against Australia in Brisbane as he is still recovering from a right thumb injury.
As a result of this, Virat Kohli will lead India for that Test only as Dhoni is expected to be available for the rest of the series.
“Dhoni is suffering from a right-thumb injury. He is on the right track,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Sanjay Patel said. “It has been further decided to rest him for one more Test, so that everything is fine. It was suggested by his physiotherapist and doctors and after that this decision was taken. It is a right thumb injury.”
It has also been announced that uncapped batsman Lokesh Rahul and leg-spinner Karn Sharma have been included in the Test squad, along with all-rounder Suresh Raina, who has not played Test cricket since September 2012.
