Former England batsman Mark Ramprakash has succeeded Graham Gooch as the country’s new batting coach in all three formats.

Ramprakash has been working with England on a provisional basis since May after his successful stint with the England Lions team.

According to sources, Ramprakash and former batsman Graham Thorpe were the two finalists for the position.

“I am hugely excited by this and I’m looking forward to building on the relationships I’ve established during the summer,” Ramprakash said. “I feel we have a very exciting group of players and I am relishing the opportunity to continue working with them.”

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) managing director, Paul Downton, added: “I am delighted to have appointed Mark. During his time with both the Lions and the senior team he has proved a valuable addition to the coaching group.

“Mark has formed excellent relationships with players and a strong partnership with Peter Moores and the management team and I have no doubt he will continue to have a positive impact.”
