Somerset pace bowler Alfonso Thomas has undergone surgery after he broke his ankle while playing golf in Devon.

Thomas, who has represented South Africa in the past, slipped on some wet steps at the golf course and is now recovering at home.

“It is really unfortunate news for Alfonso and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Somerset director of cricket Matt Maynard said. “These things do happen and we now need to focus on his rehabilitation and getting him fit to play for next season.”
