The Sydney Thunder have signed former Australia spinner Nathan Hauritz for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Hauritz represented Australia in 17 Test matches and picked up 63 wickets at an average of 34.98. He also played 58 ODIs and claimed 63 wickets at an average of 34.15.

“I am excited about the opportunity the Thunder have given me this season,” Hauritz said. “They have recruited well in the off-season and look to have a balanced squad and they are a club that is looking to move forward.

“I have always enjoyed the challenge of bowling in the T20 format and I look forward to returning to Sydney and joining up with the squad in December.”

Thunder general manager Nick Cummins added: “Nathan is a proven performer who has succeeded at the highest level and will bring both experience and a winning attitude to the Thunder. He will provide us with a quality spinning option that will complement our attack well, in addition to adding depth to our batting line-up.

“He has a good T20 record and I know that he is excited about being part of the Thunder for this season.”
