India’s director of cricket, Ravi Shastri, has revealed that he wants to see batsman Suresh Raina back in the Test team following his impressive performance in the recent ODI series against England.
Raina has not played Test cricket in over two years and has also yet to play a first-class match this year.
However, Shastri believes that Raina can be a major asset to the Test team since he has the ability to rebuild an innings and provide a lot of firepower as well.
“The more I see him play, he is brilliant to watch,” Shastri said. “It will be my endeavour really to do something that will get him back into the Indian Test team. He is a class act.
“When he is going he is a treat to watch. Even at times when I see him bat at the nets, when the ball hits the bat, just that sound or sense of timing you know it is something different. Let’s hope, fingers crossed.”
Raina enjoyed a lot of success after making his Test debut in 2010. However, things started to go downhill during India’s tour of England in 2011 and he was subsequently dropped.
Raina was recalled into the Test team in 2012, but failed to make the most of his chances during India’s home series against New Zealand.
