The Sydney Sixers have re-signed the star trio of Brad Haddin, Nathan Lyon and Steven Smith ahead of the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Haddin and Lyon will represent the Sixers until the sixth edition of the BBL, while Smith’s deal will keep him at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) until the fifth edition of the tournament.
“While we may have limited access to these players this season, they are an integral part of the Sixers club and we are very happy to have them back on board,” Sixers general manager Dom Remond said. “We’ll welcome them back to the starting team whenever they are available and should we qualify for next year’s Champions League, they will be very handy additions to an already strong squad.
“We’re lucky to have such depth in our club that we can have some of Australia’s best players on our roster even though we know they won’t be available for much of this summer.”
After being knocked out by the Perth Scorchers in last year’s semi-final, Haddin stated that the Sixers are hungry for BBL glory.
“The way the guys have embraced the whole concept of the Big Bash and the core group of guys who have stuck tight together, they are starting to create something special at the Sixers,” Haddin said. “I think it’s great exposure for first-class cricketers, they get to play in front of 30,000 people and they’re also getting to play all their home games at the SCG. That doesn’t always happen so that’s one big plus that we have as a Sixers player that we get to play games on this beautiful oval.”
