Australia pace bowler John Hastings has signed a new one-year deal that will keep him at Durham until the end of the 2015 County season.
Hastings will return to Durham after playing for Victoria in the upcoming Australian domestic season.
Hastings excelled with both the bat and ball as he played a crucial role in helping Durham avoid being relegated from Division One of the County Championship.
Hastings amassed five half-centuries and took 65 wickets in all three County formats this season. However, he made history by smashing Durham’s fastest ever half-century, which came off just 19 balls, against Northamptonshire in July.
The 28-year-old is currently in India as he is representing the Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20).
“I could not be happier to have signed at a place that has given me a great amount joy over the course of the last five months,” he said. “I can’t wait to get back to Durham and lend a hand in pushing for silverware next season. I feel I have a very close bond with the lads now and can’t wait to get next season under way.
“Hopefully I can put some performances on the board again and we can start the year well. All in all I am absolutely delighted and thankful to be coming back.”
Durham captain Paul Collingwood is ecstatic that Hastings has signed a new contract, and said: “He’s been a rock for us in terms of the effort and skill levels that he’s brought to the team this year. Along with having a very important role in the team, he’s a top bloke too and fitted in really well with the squad. His constant enthusiasm and positive attitude will be big assets to us again next year.”
