According to numerous sources, the Pakistan selectors are considering dropping veteran batsman Younis Khan from the ODI squad in order to allow captain Misbah-ul-Haq to replace him at the number three spot.

As of right now, a six-member selection committee, which is headed by chief selector Moin Khan, is contemplating the pros and cons of dropping Khan.

“They want Misbah to go up to the number three position in the batting line-up,” one source said. “However, so far he (Misbah) has resisted this advice.”

Even though Khan is almost certain to retain his spot in Pakistan’s Test team, the national selectors believe that he is no longer suited for ODI cricket.

“Some selectors have this viewpoint about Younis and also want Misbah to bat at number three,” the source said. “Misbah takes his time to build his innings and only picks up momentum later on so the number three position is ideal for him.”

Many former players, including Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Akhtar and Imran Khan have advised ul-Haq to take over the number three spot.
