West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard will lead the Mumbai Indians during the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) after regular skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the tournament with a shoulder and finger injury.
Pollard was chosen over a number of other candidates, which included Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga and India’s Harbhajan Singh, since he recently captained the Barbados Tridents to victory in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
“I am confident that Kieron with his varied experience and impressive track record, will rise to the occasion, and align the Mumbai Indians for a competitive performance,” Mumbai Indians mentor Anil Kumble said.
Pollard has represented Mumbai in 96 matches and scored 1,778 runs at an impressive strike rate of 144.31. In addition to that, he has also taken 53 wickets.
