After an illustrious 14-year career, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has taken his first step in the corporate world by joining Momentum, who are a financial service company that sponsor South Africa’s ODI and women’s team.

In addition to being an employee at Momentum, Smith is also the tournament director of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.

His first assignment with Momentum will be to work on a M2E bursary scheme, which takes care of the financial and educational needs of talented cricketers from the seventh grade upwards.

Candidates for this scheme will be chosen according to their academic grades, cricket skills and financial background.

Those chosen for the scheme will have their school fees, textbooks, stationery and other important costs paid for.

“My passion is obviously cricket, however, with Momentum, I have the chance to step up my contribution,” Smith said. “I am confident I have the leadership capability to add value to the company.

“Time and time again it is shown that education is crucial to our country’s success; so I am very pleased that through Momentum I can throw my support behind the bursary programme.”
