Australia batsman Adam Voges will captain the Perth Scorchers during the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) in India.
Voges replaces Simon Katich, who recently retired from all forms of cricket, and is confident that the Scorchers can win the CLT20.
“It’s extremely exciting and it’s a real privilege to be named the Scorchers captain,” Voges was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “Simon Katich has done a terrific job over the past few years, to win our first trophy in Western Australia (WA) for 10 years, it’s something we will all remember. The tough part is to follow it up this year.”
After the CLT20, Voges will captain the Scorchers in this year’s Big Bash League (BBL), where they will look to defend their championship after winning it last season.
“I’m very much looking forward to leading the team in India at the Champions League and then in Big Bash League (BBL),” he said. “It’s been a fantastic three years and to experience that success last year was enormous for everyone involved here in WA.”
The Scorchers’ first match of the CLT20 will be against South Africa’s Sunfoil Dolphins franchise on September 20.
