Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen will miss the rest of the County season since Surrey virtually have no chance of getting promoted to Division One of the County Championship.
According to reports, Pietersen was set to play in Surrey’s last two County Championship matches, but the club have decided to give their younger players a chance instead.
Surrey are currently in third place on the points table and will play Worcestershire, who are in first place, on September 9.
“We discussed the possibility of bringing in Kevin but realistically we’ve only got an outside chance of promotion so it’s better for the future of the club if we give the likes of Aneesh Kapil or Arun Harinath two first-class games to gain more experience to see how they can progress which will stand us in good stead for next season,” Surrey’s director of cricket, Alec Stewart, told Surrey TV.
