The Mumbai Indians have been dealt a huge blow prior to the start of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) since India batsman Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the tournament after fracturing his middle finger.
Sharma suffered the injury during the second ODI against England in Cardiff and is almost certain to miss all of Mumbai’s qualifying matches.
It is understood that West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard will captain Mumbai during the CLT20.
“While Pollard is an automatic choice in the MI set-up, his success as the captain having led the Barbados Tridents to title triumph in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will go in his favour. But Harbhajan should also be sounded out,” a source told PTI.
Whatever the case, it is highly likely that Mumbai will bring in a replacement for Sharma.
