Pakistan have included left-arm pace bowler Mohammad Irfan in their squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka as a cover for seamer Junaid Khan, who is still recovering from a concussion.

Khan suffered the injury after he was hit on the side of the head by a bouncer from Dhammika Prasad on the third day of the second Test in Colombo.

Irfan, who will head to Sri Lanka on Wednesday, has not played any international cricket since he fractured his hip in November 2013.

“Junaid is getting better and has started practising,” Pakistan team manager Moin Khan told ESPNcricinfo. “We just want to strengthen the bench, in case anything goes wrong with Junaid, then we can have a bowler to replace him.”
