Legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has announced that captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni saved his side from being embarrassed even further during their 3-1 loss to England.

Gavaskar┬ámade special reference to Dhoni’s knock of 71 in the first innings of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, in which India were bowled out for 152, and his innings of 82 in the first innings of the fifth Test at The Oval, in which India were bowled out for 148.

“M.S. Dhoni fought it out, both at Old Trafford and Oval,” Gavaskar told NDTV. “He curbed his natural instinct and scored runs when India needed them. Had he not scored runs, India would have been bowled out under 100 a couple of times.
