Durham pace bowler Graham Onions has revealed that he is “devastated” to learn that he is likely to miss the rest of the county season after sustaining an abdominal injury.

Onions injured himself during Durham’s Royal London Cup match against Nottinghamshire.

It is understood that Onions’ injury will take up to six weeks to heal.

“I was obviously devastated when I received the results of the scan as the next six weeks of the season are hugely important for the team,” Onions said. “Although I don’t think I can play for the rest of the season, I’ll be doing everything I can to try to get fit and help the lads out during those final few games.”

Onions later tweeted: “A season to forget personally but still 6 huge weeks for the Durham lads to win some silverware. It’s going to be a long winter.”

Due to back problems early in the season, Onions has only represented Durham in five County Championship matches and taken 12 wickets at a dismal average of 42.
