Australia batsman Alex Doolan has returned home after sustaining a side strain while representing the National Performance Squad XI in a match against India’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

As of right now, it is unclear how serious the injury is and how long it will take to heal.

“[Doolan] will return home to Hobart to undergo further investigation and rehab ahead of his next playing commitments,” Cricket Australia physiotherapist David Beakley said. “He will have scans in Hobart which will provide a clear indication of the injury and the timeframe for his return to play.”

In the last few matches he has played for Australia A, Doolan has shown enough promise to perhaps regain his spot in the Test team for Australia’s upcoming tour of the United Arab Emirates in October, where they will play Pakistan.

Doolan made his Test debut against South Africa in March and scored a wonderful 89 in Centurion. He ended up averaging 31 during the series.
