England pace bowler Stuart Broad has been included in the Test squad for the fifth and final Test against India despite sustaining a fractured nose.

Broad was hit on the bridge of the nose by a bouncer from Varun Aaron on the third day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Even though Broad was rushed to hospital to undergo numerous scans, England still managed to bowl India out and win the match by an innings and 54 runs.

“He will be treated over the course of the week and the medical team anticipates he will be available for the fifth Investec Test,” an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) statement said.

England captain Alastair Cook stated that he hopes Broad, who was named Man of the Match for his six-wicket haul during India’s first innings in the fourth Test, will be fit in time for the fifth Test.

“It was a really nasty blow but hopefully there aren’t any cheek fractures,” Cook said. “We wish him well and hopefully he hasn’t ruined his good looks.”
