Barbados Tridents pace bowler Jason Holder smashed a stunning 48 and captain Kieron Pollard hammered a match-winning 37 to help their side sneak past the St Lucia Zouks by three wickets.

However, St Lucia opener Johnson Charles and all-rounder Sohail Tanvir both deserve a lot of credit as they both made valiant half-centuries.

St Lucia captain Darren Sammy would have been regretting his decision to bat first since the team’s top three batsmen were dismissed with only 14 runs on the board.

Charles and Liam Sebastien stabilised the innings with a 74-run partnership, during which Charles brought up his half-century, before he was caught by Ravi Rampaul at deep midwicket off the bowling of Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

Charles’ fantastic knock of 50 came off 40 balls and included four boundaries and three sixes.

Sammy failed to have an impact with the bat as he was run out by Rampaul for six runs.

Sebastien went on to score 33 before he was caught by Holder at long-on off the bowling of Pollard.

Roelof van der Merwe failed to trouble the scorers as he was given out lbw off the bowling of Pollard for a golden duck.

St Lucia eventually finished on 167/7 off their 20 overs thanks to a quickfire 50 from Tanvir, which came off just 19 balls and included six sixes.

Pollard and Kyle Mayers picked up two wickets apiece, while Rampaul and Malik chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 168 to win, Barbados got off to a poor start as opening batsman Dwayne Smith was given out lbw off the bowling of Tino Best for four runs.

Holder and Shane Dowrich made up for the early loss of Smith with a 56-run partnership before Dowrich was caught by Henry Davids at midwicket off the bowling of Tanvir for nine runs.

Holder ended up making 48 off 30 balls, which included five boundaries and two sixes, before he was given out lbw off the bowling of Ray Jordan.

Jordan struck again the very next ball when Neil McKenzie was caught behind for a golden duck.

Malik managed to make 22 runs before he was caught by Charles at long-off off the bowling of van der Merwe.

Jeevan Mendis mustered 13 runs before he was caught behind off the bowling of Best.

Mayers also scored 13 runs before he was clean bowled by Jordan.

With Barbados struggling at 153/7 in the 19th over, Pollard came to rescue as he walloped an unbeaten 37, which came off 22 balls and included two boundaries and three sixes, to lead his side across the finish line with two balls to spare.
