England spinner Simon Kerrigan has been recalled into the Test team for the second Test against India, which gets underway on July 17 at Lord’s.

Kerrigan has been included in the 14-man squad since England are still looking for a frontline spinner following the Graeme Swann’s retirement in December 2013.

“He’s bowled beautifully in the nets and it’s good to have that option,” England captain Alastair Cook told Sky Sports.

However, some people see Kerrigan’s inclusion as a gamble since they haven’t forgotten his shambolic Test debut against Australia during the Ashes series last summer.

In the eight overs he bowled during that match, Kerrigan gave away 53 runs and went for 6.62 runs per over.

England Squad: Alastair Cook (capt), Sam Robson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Matt Prior, Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad, Liam Plunkett, James Anderson, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, Simon Kerrigan
