“We want to give a clear message: if it is repeated, he might be banned for life”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has banned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from all forms of cricket for the next six months following the alleged comments he made about not representing his country in Tests and ODIs any more.

This means that Al Hasan will not play any cricket until just a month prior to the start of the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

“He has a severe attitude problem, which is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh cricket,” BCB president Nazmul Hasan said. “We think that his behaviour is such that it’s directly impacting the team.”

Al Hasan will also not be given a No-Objection Certificate to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he was supposed to play for the Barbados Tridents.

In fact, the BCB decided that he would not be allowed to gain No-Objection Certificates for any overseas tournaments till the end of 2015.

“This morning he [Shakib] called me. He thought that he had the NOC. He did not have any,” Hasan said. “He admitted that he misbehaved with the coach. He apologised for the misbehavior. We want to give a clear message: if it is repeated, he might be banned for life. There will be no compromise when it comes to discipline.”

These decisions were taken during a BCB board of directors meeting.

The punishments were extremely harsh due to Al Hasan’s “serious misbehaviour” with head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and for leaving the dressing room during the first ODI against India in Mirpur on June 15.

According to sources, Al Hasan left the dressing room since a spectator was harassing his wife.
