The Bank of England’s annual cricket match has been banned by the new governor Mark Carney, which has left his predecessor Mervyn King in utter disbelief.
King is renowned for his love of cricket, but it seems that quality did not pass on to his successor, who is Canadian.
“The arrangements for the day were left in the hands of staff,” a bank spokesman said. “They chose a number of other sports to play such as rounders and a tug-of-war.”
