Veteran Australia batsman Brad Hodge will undertake a dual role during his stint with the Adelaide Strikers in this year’s edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Hodge will be a player and the franchise’s assistant coach as well.

“Hodgey continues to dominate against the best bowlers in the world,” Strikers head coach Darren Berry said. “He is a T20 specialist and has a great understanding of what it takes to succeed in this version of the game.

“There are few players in the world who have the experience that Hodgey has. He is very generous with his knowledge and we can’t wait to see the influence he will have on our batting line-up.”

Meanwhile, pace bowler Kane Richardson noted that he was ecstatic to be playing alongside Hodge once again. The duo were team-mates when they represented the Rajasthan Royals during this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

“It was great to be around him while with the Royals and I learnt a lot from him,” Richardson said. “He’s played for 20-odd years and he is a proven performer – you can’t buy that experience on a shelf. I can’t wait to see a batsman of his calibre take [over the] Adelaide Oval.”
