Sri Lanka’s baggage master PD Nimal has died after being hit by a vehicle, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced.

Nimal handled the national team’s kits and bags for the past 15 years and had worked for the SLC and Sinhalese Sports Club.

Tributes have already come pouring in for Nimal, who was a popular character amongst the players and the administrators. In fact, Nimal had touched everyone so much that international players actually bought him gifts during their overseas tours.

Nimal also used to assist during fielding drills and earned himself the unofficial title of “Assistant Fielding Coach”.

“Nimal was an honest and hardworking team member who was always willing to do anything for the benefit of the team and the game of cricket in the country,” SLC said via a statement. “He will be missed by all the cricketers young and old who played for SSC and Sri Lanka.”
