The Sydney Thunder have signed South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis for the next two seasons of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Kallis recently played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who won this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I will be playing against a few guys who I have played against most of my career, guys like Huss [Michael Hussey], now I am looking forward to play with these guys,” Kallis said.
Kallis, who retired from Test cricket in December, has scored 3,673 runs in 143 Twenty20 matches at an average of 31.66. He has also taken 95 wickets at an average of 31.09.
With Kallis having joined their side, the Thunder are slowly amassing a world-class squad, which include players like Hussey, England batsman Eoin Morgan, Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan and spinner Ajantha Mendis, and Australia captain Michael Clarke.
“Signing a player of Jacques’ quality and experience is phenomenal news for Thunder fans,” Sydney Thunder general manager Nick Cummins said. “He is one of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game and apart from his experience and leadership, he is still a brilliant all-rounder who will give the side a quality top-order batsman and versatile bowling option.
“Just having a player of his stature around the group will be great for our young players and he will bring big match temperament and a winning attitude to our squad.”
