South Africa pace maestro Dale Steyn has announced that he believes wicketkeeper-batsman Lokesh Rahul and spinner Karn Sharma both have bright futures ahead of them.

Even though Rahul has been struggling to find some form in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Steyn feels he is “destined to play for India”.

“KL Rahul is, in my opinion, a man destined to play for India,”¬†Steyn wrote in his column for the¬†Times of India. “He hasn’t quite scored the runs he would have liked this year, but I’ve seen a few batsmen in my career and he is serious class.

“I don’t believe in curses or jinxes which is why I’m happy to express my opinion about him. It may not happen this year, or even next, but I expect him to play for his country under MS Dhoni at some point.”

"In a country with about a million good spinners, he has something different and stands out for me, both technically and mentally"

Sharma meanwhile has taken eight wickets in 11 matches, which led Steyn to say: “Karn Sharma is another team-mate I’m happy to shine my spotlight on. In a country with about a million good spinners, he has something different and stands out for me, both technically and mentally. So people can keep a lookout for his name in the future, too.”
