Just when things were settling down in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Islamabad High Court reinstated Zaka Ashraf as the board’s chairman and dismissed Najam Sethi and his entire committee.
The Islamabad High Court also noted that all decisions made by Sethi were to be rendered invalid, meaning that head coach Waqar Younis may be sacked even before his job gets underway. This is the same case for batting coach Grant Flower and team manager and chief selector Moin Khan.
The court decided to put Ashraf back in charge as all the allegations made against him had insufficient evidence to support it.
“Therefore, the impugned notification (dated February 10, 2014, which dismissed Ashraf) superseding duly elected body of Pakistan Cricket Board without assigning any reason is required to be struck down,” the Islamabad High Court said. “The same is therefore hereby annulled.”
Sethi stated that the Islamabad High Court’s decision to make Ashraf chairman once again would be “challenged vigorously and swiftly”.
