Legendary Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has revealed that he has informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and England head coach Peter Moores that he may leave his position as a spin bowling consultant.

The reason behind this is that Ahmed has already contacted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about being a spin consultant with the national team or at the National Cricket Academy.

“I am keen to work with the Pakistan team and at the National Cricket Academy and I informed Moores that serving national interest was primary,” Ahmed said. “In England, where I have spent so many years, it is customary to inform about any new possible assignment at least two to three weeks in advance.”

Ahmed also disclosed that he had turned down an offer from Gary Kirsten to be the Delhi Daredevils’ spin coach.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t say yes to Gary because I am waiting to know whether the PCB will accept my application for the spin bowling consultant position,” he said. “Also I really wanted to spend some quality time with my family which I have not been able to do for a while now due to my commitments with the England team.”
