New Zealand wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi and off-spinner Mark Craig will both be looking to make their Test debuts after being included in the national team’s squad for their tour of the West Indies in June.
Craig was selected after Jeetan Patel allegedly made himself unavailable since he wanted to fulfil his commitment with Warwickshire and spend more time with his family.
Veteran all-rounder Daniel Vettori was not selected once again since he is still recovering from numerous injuries, while opening batsman Jesse Ryder and pace bowler Doug Bracewell were not considered due to their off-field issues.
“While we gained a convincing 2-0 Test series victory against the West Indies in December, they’ll be a totally different proposition in their conditions,” New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson said. “They’ll have the added motivation to perform well in the first match which will be Chris Gayle’s 100th Test.”
New Zealand Test squad: Peter Fulton, Hamish Rutherford, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum (capt), Tom Latham, Corey Anderson, BJ Watling, Luke Ronchi, Jimmy Neesham, Mark Craig, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi
