Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen will miss the franchise’s first match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah due to a finger injury.

Pietersen was seen at a Daredevils training session with a heavily bandaged ring and little finger.

“Kevin is still a few days away so he won’t be considered for today,” Delhi assistant coach Eric Simons was quoted as saying in The Guardian. “It is obviously a setback because he’s an important player in our set-up and an important player in any team. It is a difficult situation.”

It has been announced that Dinesh Karthik will captain the team in Pietersen’s absence.
