“Seeing what Ashley Giles does behind the scenes, the amount of effort and work he puts in, he’s been fantastic”

Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood has announced that limited overs coach Ashley Giles is the right man to lead the national team in all three formats.

Collingwood’s comments come after England failed to reach the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 and suffered a humiliating 45-run loss to the Netherlands.

Collingwood, who was part of England’s coaching staff for that tournament, believes that Giles can turn the team’s fortunes around.

“It’s a tough situation for everybody,” he told Sky Sports. “I guess it’s in a bit of a limbo at the minute in terms of nobody quite knows if there job is safe and all this kind of stuff in all the management.

“It was a tough seven weeks away for the guys, but seeing what Ashley Giles does behind the scenes, the amount of effort and work he puts in, he’s been fantastic to work behind.

“Barring that last game against the Netherlands which was a huge disappointment – to finish a good seven weeks away with England – barring that game, I thought we made good strides and I’m sure the guys enjoyed the environment as well.

“Hopefully in the future if he gets it long-term, you’ll see English cricket on the rise.”
