England all-rounder Ben Stokes will be out of action for six weeks after undergoing surgery on his self-inflicted wrist injury.

Stokes fractured the scaphoid bone in his right wrist after punching a locker following England’s third and final Twenty20 International against the West Indies.

Stokes is also likely to miss the opening part of the county season with Durham.

“Ben Stokes has had an operation on the fractured scaphoid bone in his right wrist,” an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) statement said. “Stokes will be reviewed in six weeks and a schedule for his return to full training will be determined following the review.”
