“It will be great to have him with us for the full duration of IPL and I have no doubt that he will have a positive and significant impact”
Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been chosen to captain the Delhi Daredevils in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
It was also announced that India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik will be vice-captain.
The Daredevils bought Pietersen for Rs 9 crores ($1.5 million) in the IPL auction in February and secured the services of Karthik for Rs 12.5 crores ($2.08 million).
Daredevils coach Gary Kirsten stated that he believes both players can have a massive impact throughout the tournament.
“I am looking forward to working with Kevin Pietersen as the captain of the Delhi Daredevils,” Kirsten said. “It will be great to have him with us for the full duration of IPL and I have no doubt that he will have a positive and significant impact. Dinesh Karthik, who has been appointed as vice-captain, will also form part of the leadership team. He has a lot of experience of playing the IPL and he will offer valuable inputs into our game plans and strategies during the tournament.”
