“At this stage we are hopeful that he will be available for the ICC World Twenty20”

South Africa pace spearhead Dale Steyn will miss the first two Twenty20 Internationals against Australia after sustaining a hamstring strain.

Steyn suffered the injury during the third Test against Australia in Cape Town.

“A Grade 1 hamstring strain would usually take between 7-10 days to recover, so Dale is unlikely to be available for the first two matches in Port Elizabeth and Durban,” South Africa team manager and doctor Mohammed Moosajee said. “At this stage we are hopeful that he will be available for the ICC World Twenty20 and will work towards having him ready for the final T20 against Australia in Centurion.”

Fellow pace bowler Kyle Abbott has been called up as a replacement for Steyn.
