“He is a world class player, a world class fielder and a world class bloke, so we look forward to meeting up with him in Barbados”
England batsman Ian Bell has been called up for the upcoming Twenty20 series against the West Indies, which gets underway on March 9 in Barbados, as a cover for opener Alex Hales and fellow batsman Eoin Morgan as they have both been sidelined with injuries.
Bell’s call-up could even suggest that he may be a late addition to England’s World Twenty20 squad, which has already been named.
Hales and Morgan were forced to miss the first ODI against the West Indies in Antigua due to their injuries.
“We’ve two worries – Morgan and Hales, two very different sorts of players,” England limited overs coach Ashley Giles said. “We are going to call up a replacement to come to Barbados and that is Ian Bell.
“Belly covers both those sort of areas pretty well. Of course he is a world class player, a world class fielder and a world class bloke, so we look forward to meeting up with him in Barbados.
“He wasn’t in the original 30 for World Twenty20, but with those two different sorts of players and the cover we need and the conditions we are going to face in Bangladesh, Belly has the ability to play all those different roles.”
