Bangladesh pace bowler Mashrafe Mortaza has been ruled out for the remainder of the Asia Cup with a side strain.
Mortaza sustained the injury during Bangladesh’s match against India on February 26 and he will replaced by Shafiul Islam.
“Mortaza had picked up a side strain during the match against India on February 26,” Bangladesh physiotherapist Vibhav Singh said. “The scan report suggests it is a strain on the left side.
“Unfortunately he is out of this tournament. He will carry on doing the rehab under the guidance of the BCB medical team and we will assess him further in the coming days.”
Bangladesh will also be sweating on the fitness of captain Mushfiqur Rahim as he suffered a shoulder injury during the same match.
Rahim was taken to the hospital for scans following his injury.
“We will continue to asses him today,” Singh said. “He will undergo a fitness test tomorrow after which we will decide whether he can play the match against Afghanistan.”
