Parnell will only bat if needed to
South Africa left-arm pace bowler Wayne Parnell is unlikely to bowl for the remainder of the ongoing second Test against Australia after he strained his groin during the morning session on the third day.
Parnell left the field midway through his ninth over and was taken to hospital for scans.
However, despite the scans revealing no tear, Parnell’s injury is serious enough to keep him out of action for the next five to seven days.
It is understood that Parnell will bat if needed to.
Parnell caused mayhem on the second day as he picked up the wickets of Alex Doolan and Shaun Marsh in the first three balls he bowled.
Meanwhile, South Africa batsman Hashim Amla proceeded to come out and bat at number three in the Proteas’ second innings after he dislocated his finger when he dropped a catch during the morning session of the third day.
