“Shakib was repentant for the incident and readily accepted that the behavior was unbecoming of a player of his experience and stature”
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended for three ODIs and fined BDT 300,000 ($3800) after “making an inappropriate gesture on live television” during the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Mirpur.
The incident occurred when the commentators were discussing Al Hasan’s dismissal and the camera happened to focus on the Bangladesh viewing area.
After numerous replays of his dismissal had been shown, Al Hasan made a gesture towards his crotch and also to the camera and giant screen.
“Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been penalised for breaching the BCB Code of Conduct,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said. “Shakib appeared at a disciplinary hearing of the BCB today and admitted the offence and accepted responsibility for the act.”
BCB acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury added: “Shakib was repentant for the incident and readily accepted that the behavior was unbecoming of a player of his experience and stature. We also reminded him that his action was unacceptable.”
