Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced that he is “really looking forward to re-joining Hampshire” for the NatWest T20 Blast after spending last season with Surrey.

Maxwell may represent Hampshire in other formats as well, but it all depends on whether South Africa pace bowler Kyle Abbott is available or not.

However, Maxwell is likely to miss the first four Twenty20 matches Hampshire will be involved in as he will be representing the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

During his last season with Hampshire, which was in 2012, Maxwell scored 179 runs in nine matches at a strike-rate of 175.49 and also picked up seven wickets.

“I’m really looking forward to re-joining Hampshire after a year with Surrey in the T20s,” Maxwell said. “I’ve made a lot of close friends from the Hampshire squad and management and I look forward to being part of another successful season with them.”

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White was pleased to secured the services of Maxwell once again, and said: “It’s great to have Maxi back with us, he is an extremely popular figure here both amongst the playing group and with the supporters. His all-round qualities make him a great fit in what is shaping up to be an exciting T20 squad.”
