“Both Beuran and Albie fully deserve their selection following outstanding campaigns in the Ram Slam T20”
South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel and uncapped pace bowler Beuran Hendricks have both been included in the 15-man squad for the World Twenty20, which will take place in Bangladesh next month.
Morkel has also been drafted into South Africa’s Twenty20 side for their ongoing home series against Australia.
Hendricks was selected for the World Twenty20 squad after taking 28 wickets in 11 matches at a fantastic average of 10.28 during the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
“Both Beuran and Albie fully deserve their selection following outstanding campaigns in the Ram Slam T20,” South Africa’s convener of selectiors Andrew Hudson said. “As always, there are unlucky players but we feel we have chosen the right combination for the conditions we are likely to encounter on the sub-continent.
“Beuran’s claims could not be ignored and the experience that Albie will bring on board is important for a high-profile tournament of this nature. The bulk of these players (11 out of 15) were part of our squad that won their T20 series in Sri Lanka last year under similar conditions.”
