“It’s not the end of the world”

England opening batsman Alex Hales has announced that he is looking forward to the national team’s upcoming limited overs tour of the West Indies and the World Twenty20 after he was snubbed at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

Hales failed to attract any bids at the auction and will now be available for county duty with Nottinghamshire.

“It’s not the end of the world,” he said. “I have a good opportunity coming up in the Caribbean with the England one-day side.

“I hope I’ll get the chance to open the batting and show what I can do over 50 overs – and there’s a big Twenty20 World Cup coming up.”

Hales also admitted that he was extremely disappointed with his performance in the recent Twenty20 series against Australia as he only managed to score 44 runs in three matches.

“Personally, I didn’t do as well as I wanted,” he said. “I went out there with high expectations and a degree of hype, and I really wanted to fare better than I did.

“It’s the first lean patch in T20 I’ve ever had. People are always in and out of form, and it’s more about how you bounce back from it.”
