SLC were worried about Malinga’s fitness levels

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have given pace spearhead Lasith Malinga permission to represent the Melbourne Stars in their Big Bash League (BBL) semi-finals clash with the Hobart Hurricanes on February 4.

Malinga and spinner Ajantha Mendis were recently made to return home for a training programme.

“Since he had shown a tremendous improvement in his fitness levels in the said training programme, the national coaching staff together with the national selectors took the decision to release him to play in the Big Bash,” SLC said via a statement.
