Cook will not represent England in the World Twenty20
England captain Alastair Cook will skip the national team’s upcoming limited overs tour of the West Indies following a gruelling tour of Australia, in which his side were whitewashed 5-0 in the Ashes series and thrashed 4-1 in the ODI series.
England’s tour of the Caribbean comes just before the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in March, which Cook will not take part in.
“No I won’t be,” Cook said when asked if he would be joining the national team for their tour of the West Indies. “The Twenty20 guys have got their World Cup in Bangladesh and I think we see it as a great six weeks for them to start building the team.
“They’re never together very often and it gives them, and Broady and ‘Gilo’, time to really have six weeks together to build for Bangladesh.”
During the tour of the West Indies, England’s Twenty20 squad will be led by pace bowler Stuart Broad, while the ODI squad will either be captained by Broad or Eoin Morgan.
