Lyon claimed three wickets, while Maddinson powered his way to an unbeaten half-century
The Sydney Sixers cruised past their crosstown rivals, the Sydney Thunder, by eight wickets behind off-spinner Nathan Lyon’s three wickets and Nic Maddinson’s unbeaten half-century.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and chose to bowl first.
His decision to do so paid off as opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan was run out by Sean Abbott for just two runs.
Thunder captain Michael Hussey managed to make 21 runs before he was caught by Abbott at deep midwicket off the bowling of Nathan Lyon.
Daniel Hughes ended up making 32 runs before he was clean bowled by Lyon.
Lyon struck again just a few overs later as Andrew Tye was stumped by Daniel Smith for nine runs.
Jason Floros only managed to make eight runs before he was caught by Lyon at deep extra cover off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood.
Kurtis Patterson scored 27 runs off 26 balls, which included three boundaries, before he was caught by Hazlewood at short fine leg off the bowling of Brett Lee.
The Thunder finished on 128/6 off their 20 overs thanks to a quickfire 15 from wicketkeeper Ryan Carters.
Lyon was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Hazlewood and Lee chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Chasing 129 to win, the Sixers got off to a poor start as opening batsman Michael Lumb for run out for two runs.
Mark Cosgrove amassed a rapid 32 before he was caught by Dirk Nannes at long-on off the bowling of Chris Tremain.
From that point on it was all Sixers as Nic Maddinson and Henriques amassed an unbeaten 77-run partnership, during which Maddinson brought up his half-century, to lead their side to victory.
Maddinson finished on 59 off 56 balls, which included nine boundaries, while Henriques remained undefeated on 27 off 30 deliveries, which included two boundaries.
Tremain was the only bowler to take a wicket.
