The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have dismissed reports that they are backing India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and batsman Suresh Raina’s new cricket league.

The league, which is being held in the United Arab Emirates, will be known as the 7 Premier League (7PL).

The league will feature seven teams, which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah and Umm al-Qaiwain, and each match will be seven overs a side.

“The report mentions that the event has the blessings of the BCCI,” BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said. “The BCCI wishes to clarify that this is incorrect. The ICC has also clarified that the Emirates Cricket Board has not approved such a tournament.”
